Car Wash Chemical Checks

Chemistry is what actually cleans the car — the tunnel just moves it through. An empty presoak tank, a leaking dilution line, or the wrong concentration will ruin more washes in a day than any staffing mistake. This is the daily and weekly chemical room SOP: levels, dilution, leaks, and reorder points, owned by a named person.

Daily — Levels and application (part of the opening timeline)

Check every product tank against the minimum markPresoak, high-pH and low-pH, wheel cleaner, wax/sealant, drying agent. Anything at or below the mark goes on the reorder list — today.
Verify product is actually applying in the tunnelWalk the arches while the tunnel runs: every arch that should be applying product is applying product. A full tank with a clogged line is the same as an empty tank.
Inspect for leaks, spills, and odorsFloors, fittings, drums, and the containment area. See a leak: stop, isolate the source, notify the manager, document. Never ignore a smell.
Confirm the chemical room door is secureLocked when the check is done. Concentrated product is a liability and a hazard — the room is not storage.

Weekly — Dilution, calibration, and condition

Verify dilution settings on every metering tipCheck tips and settings against the product sheet. Over-dilution wastes money; under-dilution ruins wash quality. If a tip looks changed, reset and lock it.
Check titration or concentration where your product line requires itFollow your chemical supplier's test method. Write the reading down — "looks fine" is not a measurement.
Inspect hoses, fittings, and foot valves for wearCracked lines, weeping fittings, and swollen hose are failure warnings. Replace on sight; parts are cheap, emergency calls are not.
Confirm pumps are primed and running quietlyCavitation noise (that rattling, gravel-in-a-pipe sound) means the pump is starving — check the feed line and filter immediately.
Check the spill kit and PPESpill kit stocked and accessible, gloves and eye protection present and in usable condition. An unusable spill kit is the same as no spill kit.

Inventory — Reorder points that run themselves

Set a written reorder point for every productA physical level mark on the tank plus a line in the log: product name, reorder-at level, supplier, typical lead time. No one should have to guess.
Count drums and compare against the logWeekly inventory count. If the drums don't match the usage rate, find out why before you find out you're out.
Place the order before you hit the reorder point — not at itLead times slip and peak weeks burn through stock. Order one cycle early on your two highest-volume products. Running out of presoak mid-Saturday is a self-inflicted wound.

Why the chemical room gets its own standard

The chemical room is the one place where neglect is invisible until it's catastrophic. Dirty cars are a quality problem you can rewash; a chemical leak is a safety and environmental problem you can't undo. And between those extremes sits the quiet money leak: wrong dilution, clogged lines, and weak application silently costing you dollars per car on every wash. A named owner, a daily glance, and a weekly deep check are cheap insurance against all three. If nobody owns the task, it doesn't get done — and in the chemical room, that bill comes due fast.
