Car Wash Opening Checklist

The open is a countdown, not a to-do list. Work this T-75 to T-0 timeline top to bottom (times shown for an 8:00 AM open). If you fall behind, do the must-haves first and circle back — a late open with working pay stations and a clean site beats an on-time broken one.

T-75 to T-60 — Arrive and sweep

Disarm the building alarmPanel shows DISARMED with no trouble codes. If a zone shows a fault, note it and notify the owner — don't ignore it.
Walk the building (T-75 sweep)Tunnel, chemical room, office, restrooms: no leaks, no alarms, no overnight damage, nothing left on that shouldn't be.

T-60 to T-45 — Power up

Power up tunnel equipment in sequenceFollow your equipment's start order. Main disconnect ON, conveyor ready-light illuminated, no fault codes.
Check chemical levelsEvery product tank above the minimum mark. Anything at Low goes on the reorder list — today, not tomorrow.
Inspect the chemical roomNo leaks, spills, or odors; doors secure. See a leak: stop, notify, document.

T-45 to T-30 — Money and machines

Test both pay stationsFull test transaction on each: receipt prints, card reader responds, screen responsive. A down station gets reroute signage and a maintenance log entry — it does not delay the open.
Verify POS online and scanner readingSystem online, membership scanner reads a test card, cash drawer opens and closes cleanly.
Count and verify the opening floatFloat counted against the log; variances noted and initialed before the first sale.

T-30 to T-15 — Customer areas

Check the vacuum areaAll vacuums powered, hoses intact and hung, nozzles present, trash cans empty with fresh liners.
Walk the lotClear of trash and debris; cones and curbside in place; no overnight dumping.
Check restroomsStocked, clean, lights on. The 10-second sniff-and-glance test.
Verify signage and site lightingOPEN sign ready for T-0, price boards lit and correct, lot/tunnel/canopy lights on with no dark zones at the pay stations.

T-15 to T-0 — Final walk and open

Final tunnel walkEntrance clear of debris, guide rails and signage intact, conveyor running smooth, blowers on.
Staff in positionPay station first, tunnel entrance second. Everyone in vest/uniform.
Review prior shift handoff notes, then unlock the gate at T-0Open issues from the handoff noted with a plan before the first customer arrives. Gate unlocks at posted time.

The open-on-time standard

The gate unlocks at posted time with working pay stations, a clean site, a verified float, and staff in position. If one non-critical task is still open at T-0, log it, assign it to the first 30 minutes of the shift, and open anyway. The timeline is the boss — not the checklist.
